What Do All Those Trump Flags Really Mean?

It’s true. I don’t normally write about politics and stuff like that. But you know what, these aren’t normal times. I have to write something — for me, it’s just basic therapy. So here we go.

Maybe you haven’t heard — but there’s a presidential election coming up. Yup. It’s true. It’s essentially a choice between Biden and Trump. I will let you make up your own mind on these two candidates — but I have to talk about Trump flags.

Yes, you see these flags. People put them on their trucks (but never on their hybrid-electric cars), boats, and houses. I’ve seen several different flags and I think I should give my translation for these things. So, that’s just what I’m going to do. Let’s get started.

Make America Great Again

I have to start with the classic MAGA flag. It’s probably the most common one that you seen. But what does it mean?

Come on. This one isn’t difficult. Just ask a person of color when the USA was great for them. It’s getting better for the most part, but going back in the past you just have more racial injustice. America wasn’t greater in the past.

Maybe this isn’t what the flag wavers mean, but this is what it really says: “make America white again”. But it’s not really surprising is it? This fits right along with what Trump says on twitter and in person.

But wait! What about MAGA 2020? Are there even Trump 2020 flags that say “make America great again”? If so, what does that mean about the past 4 years of Donald Trump’s presidency? Did he fail to make these “great”? If so, then why the flag? If not, then why give him another chance?

Keep America Great

The 2020 Keep America Great seems like a more common flag. It addresses the obvious causality loop of make America great again, again. So, this just says “oh hey! We did it! Let’s just keep it that way”.

But is America great? I don’t really think so. Over 200,000 people in the USA have died from COVID19. I don’t want to keep that going. The economy is in rough shape for many Americans. Let’s not keep that. Oh, what about racial tensions? Pass on that too.

Keep America Great must just mean — more of the same.
