Storm Photo Blog: Hurricane Ida

Just for my own historical archive, I’m going to share some of the details and pictures from both before and after hurricane Ida. We live in Hammond, Louisiana — which saw some significant damage during this storm. OK, let’s get started. I will post a picture and then give some type of narrative each photo.
Yes, my garage is a mess. But this shows you some of the things we do before a storm. If you have time, you need some supplies: water, beer, wine, dog food, batteries, gasoline. My wife got most of this stuff. Most of the cars had more than half a tank. I had maybe 3 gallons for my generator. Looking back, I should have grabbed some gasoline — but I didn’t want to be a hoarder.
Other important things to do before the storm:
- Take pictures of everything — just in case there is damage, a before and after photo is useful.
- Clean up the yard. You don’t want a bunch of stuff sitting outside that can get blown all over the place (and maybe cause more damage).
- Charge your phones and electronic devices.

Once you are as ready as you are going to be, it’s time to have your neighbor over for a drink or two.

We had a finger splint that he had been using, but it wasn’t really working well for his small finger. The solution was to download and print a splint made for pinkies.
It was starting to storm, but we ran up to the university and printed out this thing. It…
